Service Description

Join 'The Great Pottery Throwdown' 2024 Finalist, David Short, for a creative workshop in Throwing bowls with the addition of surface decoration. This course is stretched over three weeks. The first two weeks are consecutive with the final week placed slightly later to enable your work to undergo it's first firing. Schedule: Week 1 - Throwing. Week 2 - Turning, illustration and decoration development. Week 3 - Final illustration on bisque work and glazing. Working with stoneware clay you will spend the first week throwing repetitive bowl forms. Moving into the second week you will explore the process of turning; finishing your bowls to a refined shape. At this point you may choose to begin surface decoration with the art of sgraffito. Your work will then be left to dry ready for it's bisque firing. On the final week you will work with underglaze colours and resists to further develop your illustrations. You will also choose final glaze colours for your bowls enabling your work to reach its final conclusion. All materials, equipment and firings are included in the price. Along with tea, coffee and biscuits. Due to the unpredictable nature of ceramics, occasionally pieces can get stuck during the glaze firing. This is out of our control, refunds will not be given.
